Pardew was given permissionto talk to Palace on the club’s vacant managerial position on 29 December, 2014, with his former employer confirming the latter “have offered compensation.” The English manager succeeds Neil Warnock, who was sacked last Saturday, four months into his second spell at the helm of the Selhurst Park outfit.

Both clubs are yet to confirm the deal but it is understood that Pardew signed his contract on Friday evening. Pardew watched from the stands as Palace claimed a goalless draw at Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

The ‘Eagles’ are in the relegation zone with 17 points from 20 matches so far. Newcastle drew 3-3 with Burnley under assistant manager John Carver on Thursday, a result which increased their point to 27 on tenth position.

The 53-year-old became the ‘Magpies’ boss in December 2010 and guided the Tyneside outfit to a fifth place league finish in 2012. He was under contract until 2020 but a large section of ‘Toon Armies’ had called for his sack, when Newcastle were in the bottom three earlier this season.
Pardew spent four years playing for Palace from 1987, and he scored the winning goal in the London side’s semi-final win over Liverpool in the 1990 FA Cup.

“Alan has held a staff meeting when he spoke about a number of things,” Millen said on Friday. “He spoke to the players and then we had training,” Palace caretaker coach Keith Millen said in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Conference side Dover Athletic.

“We’re preparing for the game on Sunday and I’m sure Alan will be taking the game. He’ll be taking training on Saturday.” Palace are winless in eight league matches, but have managed successive away goalless draws from their last two matches at QPR and Aston Villa.

Their next league game will be at home to Tottenham Hotspur. Newcastle visit Selhurst Park on 11 February.
