'Jem and the Holograms' trailer: Not magical

Remember when everyone was super-excited for the live-action version of "Jem and the Holograms"? Well, it looks like some folks have lost that loving feeling. The first trailer for the film hit the Internet on Tuesday, and it landed with a thud.

The film stars "Nashville" actress Aubrey Peeples as Jerrica Benton, a singer who becomes an overnight sensation after her sister Kimber (Stefanie Scott) uploads one of her songs to YouTube.

Thus "Jem" is born, backed by a band made up of Kimber and their two foster sisters (Hayley Kiyoko and Aurora Perrineau).

Things get interesting after Jen and the Holograms are signed by music giant Erica Raymond, played by Juliette Lewis.

Iconic '80s star Molly Ringwald appears in the film as the mother figure, Mrs. Bailey.

But beware social media when you take a beloved '80s cartoon and transform it into a melodramatic modern-day musical. Twitter let its displeasure be known, because that's what Twitter does.

The film is set to be released in October.
