    UNIYO VC warns fresh students against vices

    The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, has warned fresh students of the institution to shun vices. Vices, such as cultism and prostitution, the VC said, could frustrate their academic careers.

    <--More--!> The VC, who stated this during the 2014/2015 matriculation, urged them to endeavour to abide by the institution’s rules and regulations. No fewer than 7,691 persons were admitted to the school for the 2014/2015 academic session. According to her, their priority on campus is for studies not for gangsterism. “It is in your interest to shun all activities that would be detrimental to your stay in this university as a student. “I urge you therefore to make the best use of the opportunity by spending your time wisely and making your academic endeavour your focus. “The degrees of this university are only awarded to deserving students, who are found worthy in character and learning,” Ekpo added. Noting that the university has implemented the Tertiary Institution Social Insurance Programme, the VC urged them to key into the scheme in order to obtain free medical services. Ekpo added, “It is important that you register with the University Medical Centre so that you can benefit from the scheme.” The VC, who said academic work required peace and order, advised them to stay away from anything that could result in them to crisis
